Pay for our Director of Finance and Accounting starts at $80,000 per year.


The Director of Finance and Accounting works closely with the board of directors, chief executive officer, and senior director team to develop and implement council financial strategies. In partnership with the CEO, treasurer, and finance committee, the Director of Finance and Accounting provides overall financial leadership and direction to the council, and is also responsible for providing effective stewardship, control, and oversight of the corporation’s finances. The Director of Finance and Accounting leads the accounting function and financial statement preparation in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, industry practices, and tax-exempt regulations. This position is also in charge of the organization’s related planning, execution, and evaluation by performing the following tasks personally or via direct reports.

 

The Director of Finance and Accounting partners with the chief executive officer (CEO) to:

  • Implement and oversee the development of the council’s various budgets, as well as administer and monitor operating and capital plans and budgets
  • Maintain internal controls of the council’s finances and assets
  • Engage the board’s finance and audit committees around issues, trends, and changes relevant to the overall financial landscape
  • Manage relationships with leading institutions in the financial community
  • Contribute to the development of the council’s overall financial policies and procedures

 

The Director of Finance and Accounting is responsible for:

  • Managing all financial accounts, transactions, and records
    • Payroll, accounts payable, general ledger, cash receipts, bank reconciliations
    • Quarterly payroll tax reports
  • Managing the annual audit process
  • Preparing and issuing timely and accurate financial statements, analyses, and reports
  • Overseeing payroll vendor
  • Overseeing the retail store and staff
  • Risk management administration including insurance policies
  • Supporting management of council offices
  • Supporting management of two council owned camps
  • Interfacing with Development team on grants and donations
  • Mentoring and developing direct reports


You Are:

  • Committed to the policies and mission of the Girl Scout organization and willing to become a Girl Scout member.
  • A leader, with proven skills in collaboration, management, and interpersonal communication.
  • Able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

You Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant course of study, or equivalent experience; graduate degree a plus, but not required.
  • CPA certification a plus.
  • Minimum of 7 years of directly relevant work experience, , demonstrating progressively increasing responsibility and accountability, as well as overall functional success.
  • Evidence of having worked as a true business partner to a chief executive officer, including a proven willingness to share information.
  • Past experience of supervising staff.
  • Access to automobile in working condition. Proof of meeting state requirements regarding auto licensing, driver’s license, and liability insurance.

  • Complete an annual background check.
